James L. D’Aquisto (November 9, 1935 – April 18, 1995) was an American guitar maker best known as the premier maker of custom guitars. He served as an apprentice to John D’Angelico from 1952 and was considered his successor after the latter’s death in 1964. D’Aquisto PBS Special There is a twenty-eight minute documentary about Jimmy D’Aquisto titled “The New Yorker Special.” It was done in the mid to late eighties. It was done by Filmakers Library and is available through JK Lutherie (www.jklutherie.com/). It includes performances by Joe Puma and the Jim Hall Trio as well as interviews with D’Aquisto, Hall and Puma.
